Our First Fundition Project was a Success!
In just over a month, we have accomplished our first Fundition goal because of your overwhelming support. Myke is now guaranteed to receive a consistent P1000 stipend for the remaining months of the school year.

Elden, a deaf and mute student from the same school as Myke, was supposed to be our third scholar. But, unfortunately, due to repeated absences for several weeks, we decided to select a different student instead. Elden would have his chance again once he demonstrates his full commitment to schooling.
Meet Our New Scholar, Mark
******** | ******** | |
Nickname: Mark Course: Hotel and Restaurant Servicing major in Food Processing School Year: 2018-2019 Address: Davao del Norte City, Philippines Age: 25 |
Mark is both deaf and mute
Just like our first scholar, Myke, Mark also faces the same challenges as a deaf and mute. Despite the difficulties, he is a very earnest believer in education. Quoting Mark: "I am doing the best I can to learn everything that I need to learn that can help me reach my dreams so I can have a better future." He aspires to gain proficiency in baking cookies and cakes to start his own pastry business in the future.
@chinitacharmer, one of Mark's teachers, recommended him to be a part of the @scholarsph program. She comments when asked why she chose Mark among her students:
"I chose Mark because he has a lot of excellent traits as a student. Mark is hardworking and persistent in his studies. He has good grades and always participates in class. He has also never been late nor absent since the beginning of the school year."
Mark has also displayed exemplary leadership skills. "He often leads his deaf and mute classmates in most of their group activities and also helps each one with their task." @chinitacharmer adds, "He is also very respectful to his teacher and very cheerful towards his peers. He doesn't complain no matter how difficult the situation is."
"Mark is full of dreams and someone really worthy of our support."

I wonder if we tried to check what's happening with Elden with his repeated absences? Just curious that he is committing such infraction in spite of his supposedly scholarship grant.
Anyway, congratulations and good luck to Mark! Welcome sa grupong iskolar ng Steemit. 😊

Hi @macoolette. Thank you very much for the concern 😊
Elden is a good and hardworking kid but he often misses school because of his part-time work. He was given a chance and @chinitacharmer has explained that he needs to change and commit to his studies to get the support. But his performance did not improve; maybe he chose his job because it had a more immediate impact.
Ultimately, he misses school NOT for an entirely bad reason. I should have mentioned it in the post 😅 His choices just doesn't match with @scholarsph goals. But if he will demonstrate renewed determination to study, he'll be our next candidate.

I see. I guess his reason is understandable assuming his work priority is because of deeper needs. Thanks for the clarification. :)
