460 Rowland Range Test

in myhuntingfishing •  6 years ago

Got both the Sig 365 and the .460 Rowland out to the range for the first time today. What a blast! The .460 Doesn't recoil near as bad as .44 Magnum revolver, but still noticeably more than .45. (Check previous post for pics).

Don't pay attention to the groups on the video, just testing rapid fire capability before I had it sighted in while I had someone to shoot the video. The other group on the static pic is 10 rounds to head and 10 rounds to chest at 10 yards. Very out of practice and pulled a few, (that one really bad low left, lol) but almost have it sighted in now. These are 185 Gr. at 1575 fps for 1,019 FPE Muzzle energy!

While I was able to swap in a mag of cheap .45 Winchester's and shoot, it would not cycle the action enough to feed a round with the lower power loads and had to hand cycle each one. Maybe with some hotter loads or lighter spring I can find a safe compromise capable of interchanging both.

Bottom line: I LOVE it!
Milk jug test coming soon:)

Impressive results, especially for 10 yards!
It seems you practice regularly.

Well thanks! But no, I haven't actually shot handguns in a year, and probably a year before that. I used to practice a lot. This pistol can probably cut those groups in half when I get back into practice! Luckily, they just opened a new indoor range about 3 miles from me so it looks like I will get back into it!

Yeah man! Nice to see it's coming together. With groups like that you can ride shotgun with me anytime. 😀 Good to see you're getting some range time now

Heh, well thanks. Looking forward to getting back into practice and shaving those down a bit! It's been so long, almost forgot how much I enjoy it!

I have the IPSC Victorian State Titles coming up soon so I've been practicing a lot. Heaps of dry-fire practice. Sounds boring but will make a difference when I'm running and gunning come Feb.

Good luck on that! I haven't shot any competition in a couple decades, but may get back into bowling pin shoots if my new club starts it up.

I'm not that interested in the competition side of it. I get to hang out with friends, travel around Australia and have fun. Winning is not really a thing for me as others take it way more seriously than I do. I've heard about bowling pin shoots, never did one. I shoot PRS (rifle) matches too and at the end we had a wood chop, just to burn rounds...200m and the first to cut a wooden post in half by shooting it. Was a bit of fun. Lucky I was changing out the barrel after though, it got very hot. :)

Just posted the Rowland vs. Milk Jug video. It's awesome, if I do say so myself. lol
