Cousin Treve gets one for the recordbooks...

treve1.gifThis is a picture of
my cousin Treve Gray
and his
211 non-typical record buck
he took with a muzzleloader
in 1995.
At the time,
this 19 pointer
was the #5 muzzleloader non-typical
in the nation!

There used to be a nice article with great pics on the Internet, but I'm not finding it anymore.

Treve is one of the most outstanding outdoorsmen I personally know.

  • Hunter - Deer, turkey, ...
  • Trapper
  • Fisherman - Crappie, bass, icefisherman, ...
    • Last year he landed a 3 pound crappie!!!

More 1995 deer season memories

  • Another cousin's boy shot a HUGE bodied 8 point buck.
  • My brother and I walked up on several deer and each got a doe.
  • I got 2 more deer one evening, just north of where I'm living now.
    • a button buck and a doe.
      • For a total of 3 deer that year.
  • My brother got a nice 10 pointer.
  • I watched another cousin's wife shoot a running deer in the neck at about 150 yards with an open sight 30-30 from a standing position.

1995 was my favorite deer season ever!

Those days don't come back. :)

So, what's the deer limit there? It seems like it must be higher than it is Oregon. I'm not the expert, but @bbrewer could confirm. He might even remember if 1995 was a good hunting year here, too. :)

I'm amazed even now at how many wives/women go hunting. I think it's cool, I just don't ever expect it. But I've heard, and you seem to confirm it, that they do just as well if not better than the guys!

What prompted the nice trip down memory lane?

For several years, they let you get as many as you wanted to purchase tags for. Now, You can get 1 buck and 1 doe.

That was an amazing shot Cheryl made. Open site... running deer... she was standing... boom... rolled it... She's actually won quite a few archery competitions.

I was actually looking back through my pics on my 3Tb portable drive for an idea I had for another post and ran across these. They aren't very good pics, but that was an awesome deer!

Aha! I knew there must be a reason. I guess I have something else to look forward to.

Yeah, I guess I need to just realize that women go hunting to. I guess I've been around too many who think of deer as Bambi first and foremost. Don't hurt Bambi! But I do actually know a guy from church who regularly goes and his wife has gone with him on various occasions and been the one who brought something home. :)

Yep that's an amazing shot. I was out several years ago with that guy I worked at Lowes with and seen him make a cool shot too. We had been in trees all morning and was walking back to the pickup when I seen nice buck at full run over 200 yards away. Before I could say too bad he's so far away and running my buddy dropped to a knee and whistled. The buck stopped and looked over his shoulder about same time BANG. Dropped him dead as door nail

My wife was terrified, picking up a pistol for the first time; put every round within 10cm of the bullseye from 7m, then walked away.
She hated the noise and recoil.
I love all of that, and couldn't get that kind of grouping from half the distance :)

Isn't that just the way?

My wife doesn't like guns either, and I've only gone shooting a couple of times myself, but I do have friends and acquaintances that regularly hunt and shoot and I think it's great. I do like a rifle over a pistol, but then I've only shot a pistol once, so would probably like it with more practice.

Just too many competing interests to get out there with any great consistency. And if I'm going to do something my wife isn't into, I'd probably go bowling instead. :)
