Here's the thing: I had my mediated session talking with my dear mama and so many things about it were wonderful that I'm crying and so many things were hard about it that I'm crying. I'm not sharing the details of our session, but I will say that I am deeply grateful she was willing to come to my town and talk with me, and honored that she shared her heart for me to listen.
I will also say that it was very hard to listen. There was much crying. There was a lot of me reeling in my reactivity. I was hurting. Am hurting still. I want this to be easy and resolved but it is hard and still has many edges to file.
It hurt and I knew it would, but I showed up. I did #myokayest. She did her okayest. Something shifted. It will take time to tell what. Until then, I will be doing another sort of okayest where I sift and process and hope. Also probably cry lots more.
At this point, it's important to agree to disagree. It is possible to have opposing opinions and still love one another. In fact, whenever my dad and I start talking religion, he inevitably ends up shouting in a near panic, "Agree to disagree!" It makes me laugh because it is his way of protecting our love, and that is joyful. As to my mom and me, we are making our path forward. I am hopeful. Clinging to hope is sometimes the okayest act of all.
How are you doing your okayest today? I hereby challenge @disarrangedjane. What say you?

powerful to have this important step forward. Agreeing to disagree can be a powerful meeting place. It demands that both sides are at a minimum shared and accepted as legitimate, even if there isn't a consensus on the meaning. It also shows a willingness to continue dialogue where the relationship is a priority over either party being right. Interpersonal communion doesn't demand complete agreement, just respect enough to allow the person their views while still finding respect and love more valuable than the differences. Hopefully it represents a platform for growth, where the topic can still be addressed in the future in a civil, productive manner where consensus may yet draw closer. Sometimes, where affront has been given, this failure to agree can continue to fester, because we are looking for confirmation of our point of view, but agreeing to disagree can still be the start of a process where we release the pains of the past in anticipation of positive things from the relationship moving forward. Agreeing to Disagree seems like one of those conditional meeting places defined by #myokayest, which is not a bad place to be on any given day. So glad for this positivisity in your life.

HAHAHAAA!!! I thpoght for months that @globocop was a bot too, on a different platform! giggles.
But, he's not a bot. And he's right...I have some very pressing challenges facing me tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Also, I'm not quite sure of the rules of the "myokayest" challenge, as I am not at my okayest just now. Do I have to start today? or can I wait to accept the challenge on Monday? I'll have @globocop help me figure it out, as...he's really good at understanding things on the platform.
Still, though, you are one of my favorite Steemians!! I love reading your posts.

Absolutely wait until Monday! And it’s all about wheb we aren’t really okay but we do what we can to make it. The post can be imanything. Rules are in the original post. On my phone or would link, but i think the link is above.
Still giggling about @globocop, and you are one of my favorite reads too. A goal i have is to do more podcast/radio listening so i keep checking your blog thinking it will happen. Soon! I’m terrible about vlogs and audio.

It certainly does! One issue I am struggling with is when I am willing to compromise, but the other party is not. Thoughts?

I think discussing on what to compromise on both ends can be a good start. But initiating that discussion would be lot harder.

I agree with the idea of agreeing to disagree. There are really times you won't see eye to eye and you both have to deal with that. What's important is you respect each other's ideas even if you do not believe them yourself. This is important not just in families, but all kinds of relationships. :) Great post.

Thank you. I think being able to love despite differences is mature. If we only all agree, where is the friction? Some of the best ideas and change come from friction.

That's true. To be honest, if people never argued, a lot of the great things we have now might not even be here. We learn to adjust and create better options through bouncing different ideas with each other. There is beauty and harmony in difference too. ^^
