Mystery continues to surround the rocky plateau of Belintash in the Eastern Rhodopes. Just like England's Stonehenge, like Machu Picchu in Peru or the Easter Islands.
Legends tell what happened here. There are legends that pagan rituals were performed here, that there was an ancient observatory and even a way station of extraterrestrials. The stories relate to different eras, the Thracian civilization and military campaigns in the past to modern day prophecies. On Belintash, there are visible signs of what happened over the millennia.

On Belintash, the Thracian god Sabazius chose to visit the earth.
The first people lived around the plateau, performed their rituals. They believed that by immersing themselves in the rainwater that collected in the two small lakes formed in the rocks, they would gain extraordinary power and knowledge.
When the Moon and the Sun were reflected in the lakes, the ritual with water rites was performed. People believed that this was how they connected with the Cosmos and its Divine power.
The Thracians believed that it was here that their god Sabazius chose to visit the earth. Therefore, for 7 thousand years Belintash has housed the largest sanctuary of the Thracian god.
