The Gospel of John tells us that Jesus performed many miracles and signs before the common and simple people; among other miracles, Jesus healed a sick person in the pool of Betsana, multiplied the loaves, and healed a man blind from birth. All this attracted a lot of attention, especially among the doctors of the law, the high priests, and the scribes, who asked themselves with curiosity who this character called Jesus was.
But Jesus also began to talk about himself, and the gospel of John teaches that Jesus introduced himself without saying it openly as "son of man", a title referred to in the Old Testament to mention the prophet Ezekiel, and also was a title mentioned in the visions of the prophet Daniel. Only a few understood the language of Jesus.
And according to John's account, there was a moment in the life of Jesus, when he was in Jerusalem during the Feast of the Dedication, when Jesus presented himself as the good shepherd. And it was there that his enemies became angry, accused Jesus of blasphemy, and tried to stop him to kill him but Jesus escaped to the other side of the Jordan.
And the people who followed Jesus to the other side of the Jordan said: "Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true." John 10:40-41.
In many of those who followed Jesus and his teachings, the memory of John the Baptist increased their faith in Jesus. The mystery of Jesus grew in the simple people.
The evangelist John presented us in his gospel a Jesus who baffled many, provoked passions in those who questioned him, and brought love (Agape) and hope to many because Jesus is the good shepherd. In this consisted the mystery of the "son of man," a mystery that was revealed to men through the perfections of Christ; the mercy (compassion, gentleness, kindness), the fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion), and the wisdom from above.
