What does it means to be a mystic

in mysticism •  7 years ago

There is some value in knowledge, like for example education or science, unfortunately acquiring knowledge can't offer you any closure.

It is not a very effective strategy to manage or deal with existential crisis or any psychological issues, this is one of the reason why therapies based on self knowledge like psychoanalysis are so ineffective.

For any subject you can ask the basic four questions: where?, when? who? and why?, for any answer to any of this questions you can ask the four questions again. So for any answer you end up with four new questions, the more you know the more uncertain you will become.

Whit each answer your uncertainty will grow exponentially, after years of learning you are more confuse and uncertain than you ever was.

This is why it is so common for people who are competent at something to still be insecure, despise the fact that they are getting the best results and know the most. They are also the people with the most amount of unanswered questions.

We as a species are on this mad race to decode everything and understand nature, in order to do that we have to translate everything in too symbols, in something artificial that makes things that are impossible to be perceive with our senses in too something that is a symbolic representation of that thing that we can perceive.

This is an infinite cycle because the most we translate the uncertainty grows exponentially so there is even more to translate, also for us to grasp the essence of nature would mean to turn it in too something symbolic and artificial which it is impossible.

You can capture certain aspect of nature with symbolic things like art or innovation but you can translate the essence of nature in too it, because as soon as you do that it becomes the opposite of nature, it becomes artificial.

I guess the only way you can truly find some piece of mind is deep inside you, not to say that education of knowledge is useless but is insufficient, the word for that would be mysticism, but unfortunately that is now a euphemism for naive and irrational people, who make all kind of crazy claims being able to communicate with spirits, aliens, seeing auras etc.

All what mysticism means is that you have access to a higher form of intelligence than your intellect, I don't think that this makes it a valid excuse for becoming irrational. Because there is still the probability to be subjected to illusions.

And beside as soon as you start to translate your experiences in too symbols they pretty much become the opposite of what you understand and experience.
