Last year I grew sweet potatoes for the first time up in the great white north. Well I'm doing it again! I bought a couple purple sweet potatoes over winter, one sprouted a little and the other one dried out lol. If I can find another purple sweet potato at the grocery store soon, I'll start that one too.
This year I want to take you on this journey with me, with weekly updates on my progress. Here's where we are at now. It hasn't been quite a week yet, but I am seeing roots forming already. I also have one of my self-grown sweet potatoes in some water, but so far I haven't seen any root development. 😕
These are called slips. When they are big enough I'll pluck them and start them in water. Once they form a strong root system, I'll move them into pots where they will stay until the soil outside is warm enough to transplant them. We have many months to go before that happens.
As you can see I'm not going to be gardening anytime soon, so I have plenty of time to keep you updated lol
Freaking -25 this morning!

Great stuff @venomnymos .. in my opinion, until we can all grow our own food and learn to look after ourselves again we will never be truly free. I'm not there yet but I'm certainly working towards it and it's great to see you're on the same page :) -25 though .. wow!!
Over the next decade I think we're in for some much colder years and this will cause huge problems for industrial farming and lead to food shortages .. another great reason to grow your own. ;)

Thanks. Yes I agree 100%. Each generation is more dependent on the system than the last. Breaking that path and going back to self-reliance is the only way we are going to have a chance in this world.
Yeah, we are getting some nasty cold weather these last few days. Hopefully that'll be the end of it. We are behind on our planting schedule.
