Why are we striving so hard on our life? If we do not strive we are considered lazy. But if we strive too hard, we will become anxious and depressed. So why are we striving so hard?
Life has become so competitive these days. If we don't compete with one another we will be left behind and no one wants to be left behind. Everyone wants to be first in the game. No one wants to be a loser or left behind.
They say the price of success is striving and hustle. But somehow when one achieves success after striving so long, it becomes like an addiction. No matter how much success one has, it seems never enough. There is more to go and more goals to achieve. This also seems like chasing after the wind. We chase and chase, we strive and strive and in the end we still keep chasing. Is there a point when one will learn to realise where it is time to stop?
We stress our body and kill it with our striving. In the end we realise, what is the point of all these? In the end we will need to leave it all behind. Don't we?
But I am not saying we should do nothing either and be lazy.
I am just saying what is the point of all these endless toil that in the end it dies anyway.
I guess someone has to sacrifice so that others can live. Someone has to do it anyway.
But for most of us, we need to recognise that our bodies will fail one day. We need to have a balance when it comes to striving. We need rest and I mean true rest.
This is what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
