The Hydrowingen – invented by 20 year old Nagaland's science student Zenwang Konyak and his team of five other students – is a water pump cum electric generator; what it does is, it pumps water by using the force of water without using electricity while at the same time generating electricity. Cool huh?
Zenwang used to watch his parents cut tea leaves with difficulty so he decided to make their task easier by designing a device called Tea Leaf Cutting Machine (TLCM), while studying in the Eleventh standard at school. His team is working on updating the device as the first version was, according to him, "primitive".
He, along with 15 young social innovators across India, has been adjudged as an ‘Ashoka Youth Venturer’ at the Ashoka Youth Venture Program, Bangalore, Karnataka. He was selected for his book ‘Grow Your Plants’ (Team Echo Inspiro), a guidebook for children about growing indigenous plants at homes and backyards, which was written with the goal of triggering curiosity in the young minds about botanical sciences and indigenous practises.
