Just a quick gist on this phenomenal source of raising capital for any kind of venture. I came across it and I've fallen in love.
As the name connotes, simply means sourcing resources in bits for a big venture from several people buying small stakes in the venture.
So a friend said, there are many ways to make 1 million naira. You can make 1m from one rich that guy, that's hard. You can get 100k from 10 rich guys, that's kind'a hard. You can't get 10k from 100 average guys, that's pretty easy ain't it? You can also get 1k from 1,000 fellas, now that's rock bottom easy...right? That's crowdfunding.
Think about it, if you've a project of 1m, ask 1,000 folks to buy stocks of your 1m valued business and present a dividend structure that your investors will earn off the 1k invested, I will readily do it.
In 2015, it was estimated that worldwide over US$34 billion was raised this way.
This crowdfunding model is generally based on three types of actors: the project initiator who proposes the idea and/or project to be funded, individuals or groups who support the idea, and a moderating organization (the "platform") that brings the parties together to launch the idea.
Crowdfunding has been used to fund a wide range of for-profit entrepreneurial ventures such as artistic and creative projects, medical expenses, travel, or community-oriented social entrepreneurship projects.
The opportunities are enormous. I'll talk about them subsequently.
