Nanomancer

Thank you everyone who took the time to enter the Nanomancer art competition. Your efforts have brought to life not only the Nanomancer character, but the story I hope we will continue to tell together.

After much deliberation, I've chosen a winner and the two runner ups. It really was a difficult choice because the artwork was absolutely fantastic. Each of you made the effort to think about the character and combine ancient alien heritage and form with hints of advanced technology and other capabilities. In the end, @artwatch, I believe, just had the edge and in fact inspired the most dread within me.

I'm very glad I increased the reward pool because all your efforts deserve a reward. In fact, all competition entries will receive a share of the SBD generated from this post.

1st Place - @artwatch

Joint 2nd Place - @inber

Addition to the story - The Dwarves

The Dwarves on Gethyra were the least intelligent of the races as a result of being the closest to the elemental forces that governed the Jeyydheran system. They spent most of their time underground in their rough-hewn caverns and tunnels. They constantly fought amongst each other over the bright objects that they mined from the deep earth. They had absolutely no interest in wealth, but would gaze deeply into the heart of a sapphire for days.

They were extremely resilient to fire and their particular affinity with the energy field enabled them to mold even the hardest rock with their mind....though it was taxing and depending on the size and durability of the piece, required the efforts of several together. They would connect to each other through a deep, rumbling song. All their weapons, their great axes, maces and hammers were forged in such a manner.

The Dwarves were immensely strong, some rivaling even the smaller giants. In battle, they could call forth the Gundenbroc. Whereby they could connect with the rock in the soil and become completely immovable.

They were the first race to be targeted by the Nanomancer when he arrived on Gethyra. They were the least sophisticated and therefore more easily manipulated. Over centuries, the Nanomancer altered them, awakening and feeding the darker sides to their nature, horribly warping them mentally and physically (with grotesque cybernetic meldings.) Not all were captured and so influenced, but those that were became very dark creatures, formidable weapons over which he exerts complete control.

I hope you will join me in further enhancing the world of Gethyra and the characters therein. For anyone new, here are two previous posts to catch up on;

Next Steps

Soon I will run a new creative writing competition for a short story involving the Nanomancer which will include the image by @artwatch. More details to follow. Keep an eye out! (You will be able to add artwork to the short story if you like....in fact a comic story will be equally admissible.

I hope eventually that we can link all the art and writing into one cohesive body of work, perhaps when communities are possible within Steemit or an alternative Steem based application.

Hey @benjojo so great to see you back posting about your fantastical story and providing steemians with more opportunity to be a part of something!
That first choice was far and away the best, inspired by your contest of course!
Steemit is so much better off with you. Your a quality guy. I am sure many agree with me.
Thank you!

Long time no talk. I was asked by the members of steem developers if I knew anyone who might be interested in helping out their project. I thought of you cause it seems like you really admire the programmers and developers here. I can vouch for @rondonson and @jphenderson, really solid people, if you like their proposal comment to it directly.

I have to go back and catch up on this project, I didn't know you were into sci fi. I have a rough outline for a sci fi story but im probably not going to get around to it til I finish my short story collection and a bunch more optimism at the End of the world posts and my album. This project of yours seems cool but I don't fully understand it yet, I will when I click the link though haha

I don't know much about the topic but thanks for the competition and have a WONDERFUL day!

Thank you, you too.

thnk for sharing this

Pleasure, thank you.

Nice Post !!! Thankyou !!

Glad you liked it!

Excellent, thank you @benjojo! - Great work @artwatch. That was very creative with the exposed brain and wide set optics like a hammerhead shark. Nice work @inber on yours as well.

@benjojo - Nice addition to the story with the the Dwarves. Will that be something we can draw ideas for next? Or will the creative writing part come first?

The creative writing competition will come first but the Dwarves will feature in a later art competition for sure!

ok. I will get some ideas flowing. This will be really cool to see how it evolves into a full story-line with the blending of everyone's ideas and input over time.

I really hope so. It will be a fantastic challenge for us to succeed in. The main difficulty will be in keeping everyone across the character and story development....especially new people that I hope will join as we go. We need to ensure as much coherence as possible but also enable an explosion of creativity and open adaptation.

Are you promoting this at all over on discord channels or steemit.chat? I was posting my entry drawing there, it helps pull people interested in similar genres over to see it.

I haven't promoted this anywhere other than in a few comments to artists. I'm hoping interest may grow organically based on the merits of our collaboration. So far so good! I welcome anyone wanting to get involved, share the posts or tell others they think may be interested. I think it's great that you shared your entry on discord and/or chat!
