Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed he will go to Uefa and ask for an explanation as to why Liverpool were third seeds in the Champions League.
The Italian side, in pot two, were drawn in the same group as Jürgen Klopp’s men, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and bottom seeds Red Star Belgrade.
Despite making it all the way to the final last season the Anfield outfit were included in the same pot as the likes of Valencia and Lyon due to their relatively poor form in Europe over the past five seasons.
Still though, De Laurentiis has admitted he is baffled by the seeding system and will complain to European football’s governing body.
“We are bitter, I will ask for an explanation from UEFA,” he told Gianluca Di Marzio. “Liverpool, Champions League finalists, are put in pot 3? It is a disastrous anomaly.”
Napoli kick off their European campaign against Red Star on Tuesday September 18.
That guy should really check out how Uefa Coefficients are calculated. It is actually quite honest! What a moron!
