When Yawning Puts Pressure On The Lacrimal Gland

in narcolepsy •  11 months ago
Yawning is a movement the body does to cool down an overheated brain. When you yawn, you naturally stretch your jaw and increase blood flow to your neck, face and head. Yawning occurs because the body is not getting enough oxygen. This is done to fill the reduced oxygen in the body, because when you yawn you will lose a lot of oxygen so that you will eventually be sleepy. Yawning and excessive sleepiness may be associated with symptoms of a sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy. Sleep apnea is a problem that occurs during sleep and difficulty breathing that keeps you awake at night. Meanwhile, narcolepsy is a sleep disorder caused by the nervous system. According to a study, yawning is more contagious to close friends. Researchers have found that the closer we are to someone, the more likely we are to yawn when they yawn. Yawning is often accompanied by tears. Tired eyes may be dry, thereby stimulating the release of tears. This occurs especially when yawning puts pressure on the lacrimal gland.
