The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has awarded a $ 330,000 "incentive" to scientists at the University of Akron to investigate the blockchain's potential for improving communications in space.
Dr. Jen Wei, Professor of the Department of Informatics Engineering, leads a team of scientists developing a Sustainable Network and Computing Paradigm (RNCP) for space exploration.
This technology will allow the spacecraft to receive Earth commands faster and send collected information faster. Block-development is also designed to increase the effectiveness of device response to various threats.
The team plans to launch RNCP based on Ethereum in combination with the use of artificial intelligence and deep learning methods.
"We are using blockchain technology to develop a secure and decentralized infrastructure for the processing of data sets in the context of space exploration", the study concludes.
RNCP will enable devices to effectively track artificial space debris and create safe trajectories to prevent fatal collisions.
At the same time, the technology will allow an early response to other operational risks, as well as automate many processes, significantly reducing the need for manual management of Earth operators.

I wonder if they will make a NASA coin. Even better a Spacex coin.
