National Animals of the World - Part 2

in nationalanimals •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hi all!

Here is Part 2 of my journey on discovering the national animals of the world. I have decided to do this alphabetically, but not all countries have national animals, and boy, there are some interesting ones out there!

For today, I am going to talk about the national animal of Algeria - the Fennec Fox or Vulpes zerda.
Algeria is a North African country with a Mediterranean coastline and a Saharan desert interior.

It is a small nocturnal fox found in the Sahara in North Africa and just look at those cute big ears! Its name comes from the Arabic word "fanak", which means fox, and the species name "zerda" comes from the Greek word "xeros" which means dry, referring to the fox's habitat. If don't know, the Sahara is a desert in North Africa.

Can I have one?! They look so cuddly!

Have a good one all!
