Lip Balm : Test 1 : Honey & Vanilla

Continuing on from yesterdays post....

While I was making a mess anyway I figured I should sort out my dry lips that matched my dry face and make myself lip balm.

It's not that I don't have products, I do but they're all pre~baby products. Ever since I got pregnant I've been extra conscious of what I'm putting on and in my body.

It's not even just that either, we've done a huge overhaul of most things like getting rid of our teflon coated pans, switching over to stainless steel. Food containers and jugs are all glass now....

So anyway! I've actually been hanging to do this experiment for a while and in my mind I had a really simple straightforward recipe. I mean come on! It's lip balm it shouldn't be rocket science or need anything much.

Ingredients

2 tsp beeswax
2 tsp coconut oil
2 tsp local honey
1 dash of organic vanilla essence

And just like the face cream simply throw everything in the pyrex jug, put the jug in the saucepan with the boiling water.

Wait for the beeswax to melt, pour the mix in the sterilise container and whip baby, whip!

That's it! So easy, so natural & really basic

Here they are today.

My only problem with these are they're super tough. They're solid actually 🤣🤣 which tells me I need to modify the recipe and either use less beeswax or use more coconut oil to get a more liquid/softer mix.

That aside, I really love the lipbalm.

Love the fact I know exactly what's in it and that its basically edible. The other thing I like is that if you get the containers mixed up and use the lipbalm on your face, its ok!!

I know, I did it this morning and put lip balm on my face and I smelled like honey and vanilla all morning 🤣. It also kept me moisturised for a while too, so I was happy!

The real take away from this experiment is, how truly simple it is to make your own lip balm.

Considering how easy it is to make, with the simplest ingredients no less, it makes me wonder why some lip balms are loaded with artificial ingredients. 🤔

Happy Saturday peeps!

My lips is just black naturally...I don't even smoke

Kinda wish I'd known about this kind of thing and gotten my daughter into it as she's into all this beauty stuff (it has never occurred to me ever because I don't wear makeup if I can avoid it because I'm allergic to everything and can't stand anything on my skin for long periods of time anyway, putting up with makeup for stage plays and performances was barely tolerable because it was necessary for the performance). And would have made it less concerning and much more amusing when she as a then 6-7yo came in to me tearfully one day announcing that her younger brother (then 4-5) had eaten her lip balm (she got a strawberry flavoured one and he loves strawberries).

🤣🤣 ate her lip balm....

Not too late to try hun. It's so easy it's almost criminal not to make your own.

I dont wear make up often not cos I'm allergic but cos I cant be bothered. There was also the concern over chemicals in them and animal testing that I wasnt down for.

This recipe is defo edible btw so if you're gonna make it make a huge batch just in case it gets eaten again lol

The child is 10 so definitely knows better now XD (or at least he should x_x)

Sadly I'm not sure if she'll be that interested as school wastes takes up the whole day but will give it a shot.

I put a lot of stuff on my face but I do not have lip balms, haha, which is strange bc I have the most dry lips ever. Thank for this, Bearone! I will try it. 😊💜

Woohoo let me know how you go. I would suggest less beeswax if its cold~ish over there. It's so cold over here my lip balm is super solid.

Can you eat beeswax? Because this sounds more like cake than lip balm... omg yum. Interested - have you got a nappy rash cream sorted yet?

Be careful. Lip balm is addictive and you'll have to use it all the time. This is why I try to go without as much as possible. I'm like the Queen of chapped lips. 😂 Although not so much here. The million percent humidity at all times takes care of my hydration needs these days.

Lol well I'll defo have to send you a big batch of lip balm then! I reckon this recipe as it is would work great in your temp. So damn cold down here this thing is solid as 😭. Dont know if I would have gone through it tho since it keeps my lips moisturised fairly well throughout the day, I apply maybe twice a day and forget about it til I feel cracked skin.
