Natural Medicine's "Survivor Challenge" of the Week

in naturalmedicine •  6 years ago

As a member of the Shire's rescue team in helping the stranded community of Mordor, a further municipality of our town near the sea, bounded by a river to the Eastern side of town. The recent 250 kilometers per hour storm brought with it a couple of meters of water, overflowing the river and made the road unpassable for days now. A 911 call came in the morning from Mayor Saruman as their sick evacuees has grown in number with dehydration and influenza most especially to the elderly and the kids.

As a nurse volunteer Nurse Galadriel (errr that would be me!) and Dr. Legolas are both off from hospital duty, we will be accompanying the rescue team. As Legolas' medical kit will be full of hydration tablets, cough medicines, injections and what not, i reckon i might as well give a bit of class and bring some natural medicines that are more effective, as well as edible, giving both medicines and hydration at the same time.

Looking around our backgarden, i needed to bring at least 3 medicines that can sort of cover what most of the evacuees need:

Moringa / the Miracle tree

The latest i've read about Moringa that detailed its' packed benefits is from @sallybeth23. With our scenario, i want it's anti-inflammatory properties and its' probability as an antioxidant against free radicals in the body.

Animal studies have resulted in Moringa having protein, iron, Vit. C, magnesium, and compounds against cholesterol and also can lower blood sugar. source

Moringa is a common tree in the Philippines, where its' leaves, flowers and pods are edible and are considered as vegetables. All 3 parts can be mixed in a stew, the leaves in a salad and the seeds i have seen being eaten raw in London from an African community.

Paragis

From this site Paragis listed some benefits of Paragis:

  • Airway inflammatory processes
  • Apoptotic induction activity
  • Antiplasmodial/antidiabetic
  • Nutritional potential/fodder
  • Hepatoprotective/antioxidant
  • Pancreatic Lipase Inhibitory Activity/Obesity treatment potential
  • Anticonvulsant

Paragis I needed for its' specific airway anti-inflammatory effects, aside from its' other potential benefits. It's a wild weed that can be found anywhere in the Philippines. Although its' been listed as a nutritional potential, i have not seen anyone doing that.

Wild Mulberry

Thanks to @el-nailul for his knowledge about the wild mulberry as he very recently told me of the benefits from his experience of using this plant, namely for:

  • fever
  • cough
  • flu
  • wound bleed

An article about mulberry listed these benefits:

  • contains calcium, iron and zinc
  • anti-inflammatory
  • antioxidant
  • lowers blood sugar/cholesterol namely the LDL and triglycerides

Preparations for them can just be the easiest thing to do as they can just be brewed individually or together and taken as tea.

😆 So Mordor got colonised by the freepeoples of Middle-Earth, hey?

Great interpretation of the challenge. Are you suggesting that the Phillipines were in ancient times the land of Mordor?!? 😜

Thanks! In ancient times, it was just one huge island till earthquakes after earthquake separated Oz and NZ from Asia. Besides, there's too many ugly orcs around that the peaceful mid-earth peeps intermingle with till natural medicines changed their physical looks to have become similar to us. They survived their species, not only that, they became peaceful and beautiful, now the people of different heights of the entire continents. 😂🤣😆 Not only the Philippines lols
Did you write one up? i didn't see it☺

wow, this paragis grows a lot wherever , I did not know it was medicinal!

Neither do i a few months ago..where are you at? I brew it for my elderly mom.

I am living in Venezuela, around here there are many plants to "discover" hehe

Plants, fruits, weeds are medicinal, just find out which are beneficial. Do you know @aksurevm89? She's posting about medicinal herbs from there. Cheers!

Thanks! I´ll check @aksurevm89!

Cheers! So did you check her out? you can join us at @naturalmedicine discord ☺

Very interesting, here I have some onoto seeds, which I plan to plant soon; she talked about this plant.
Greetings, thank you

Welcome and plant away! Cheers!

I like the way you got imaginative comma however if you live in the Philippines this could be a very real situation give in your proximity to the sea. I definitely would want you in my Survivor group, that's for sure xx

The seeds apparently can be planted but here, just chop a 6in branch and plant it. They easily thrived..but not in winter.

Hi, how to prepare the Paragis and for what specific ill it can heal, thank you for your response @immarojas.

All parts can be brewed...just clean the roots from dirt. It have specific respiratory anti-inflammatory effects...kind of an antibiotics.
Use honey to sweeten it as it's bitter. Cheers!
Let me know if you need other help.
