How to properly make the infusions of plants? 🍵🌿
The first thing we need to know is that an infusion is an extract.
The extracts are preparations resulting from the dissolving action of water, ethyl alcohol, glycerin, propylene glycol ... on raw materials of vegetable origin.
As you can see, there are different types of extracts: aqueous, alcoholic, glycerinated, oily ...
In the aqueous extracts (water), boiling water is used as an extracting liquid of the active ingredients. Among the aqueous extracts we have: Infusions and decoctions. Due to their composition, they are fluid extracts and they are obtained in such a way that each milliliter of extract contains the active principles of 1 gram of raw material.
To prepare aqueous extracts, appropriately, we must calculate the proper concentration of water and plants. In this case, a sufficient quantity for 100cc. Note that the plants always multiply by ½ (it is a constant):
On this occasion, I'll prepare an infusion of lemongrass for my daughter because she has the flu. I'll use the fresh plant because I take it directly from my garden. The steps to follow are these:
- Select the plant of your preference. To prepare the infusion, I'll use lemongrass. (At night, it can be combined with Melissa infusion to help her fall asleep).
If you prepare with fresh plants, you should cut the plant into very small pieces and weigh 20 grams on a scale.
In a measuring cup, place the amount of water you need. In this case, 90 cc of water according to the formula.
Boil the water.
Once the water is boiling, you should pour the water on the plant and let it rest for about 20-30 minutes.
Filter and go, you already have an infusion of plants, where each milliliter contains 1 gram of the active ingredients of the selected plant.
If you want, place honey to taste. I like to add honey because it helps relieve sore throat and also contains antimicrobial effects. When my daughter was a girl, she loved playing "tea time". Then, she would take her dolls and sit them in a circle ... she would invite me to enter her circle and she would always clarify that I should take the tea cup carefully and stretch my little finger as a symbol of elegance 🍵😊.
