Animal of the Week - Sloth

in nature •  5 years ago

Sloths are arboreal mammals that spend most of their lives travelling upside down (horizontally) on trees of the tropical rain forests of Central and South America. Just as the name Sloth is related to "slow", theirscientific name Bradypus means "slow feet" in Greek.

There are known as the slowest animal in the world. Maybe snails aren't as worse as we thought anymore. Lol

They have long claws adapted for moving in trees. An average sloth travels about 125 feet per day. That's not even up to the half the lengthof a football field!

Sloths are grouped into two; the two-toed and the three-toed sloth. The two-toed sloth has two claws on each fore limb while the three-toed has three. There are three claws on each hind limbs of both groups.

Their claws make travelling on land difficult as they attain only 1 foot per minute. 😱🤯 Fortunately, they are good swimmers and even move faster in water.
