One news called my attention a few days ago.
Due to the cold wave that was experienced in the US, images of crocodiles trying to survive made me learn something about the subject.
The swamp where the case occurred is in the Shallotte River Swamp park in Ocean Isle Beach and it was the park staff who provided the video and the photos circulating on the internet.
It seemed that the crocodiles were dead but according to the experts, in the intense cold and freezing of the waters, they had passed into a state called Brumacion.
This is a biological process that causes your metabolism to slow down, hoping you can return to your normal habitat.
They leave the head
out of the water to get the oxygen they need to survive. They remain motionless as if they were dead but they are really waiting for weather conditions to improve.
They can stay in this state for one to four months depending on their age, size and health status.
Nature never ceases to amaze me.
