Beltane is one of the holidays of the Wheel of the Year, which is celebrated on the 1st of May. This holiday has also other names: May Day, Walpurgisnacht, Floralia, Calan Mai.
If we talk about the energy of this period, then this is a time which is full of emotions. The main thing here is not so much their focus (positive or negative), as the particularly bright intensity of their manifestation.
It is necessary to understand that the vector of emotions (positive or negative) has sense only from the social or personal point of view. The Universe accepts all our emotions because they carry the energy necessary for the life.
It is necessary to learn to understand all your emotions, not to devalue them, not to lock them inside yourself, because sooner or later it will lead to sad consequences.
For example, what can you say about the rage? Is this a good emotion or a bad one? Maybe you’ll find that the answer depends on its directionality. We can turn the rage inward on blaming ourselves or other people. Or we can direct it on the overcoming of obstacles. Or what about the envy? Envy can push a person to unseemly thoughts and actions or it can make him work on himself to achieve what he envies.
Thus, the emotion itself does not have a positive or negative context. It is our actions that make it either socially approved or socially deprecated.
But still, we are talking about the beautiful time of spring. This is a period of rebirth, a period when nature cares about the continuation of life, including in all living beings beyond their will the desire for the manifestation of passion, sensuality, sexuality. The world seems brighter and more colorful. The air is saturated with love and romance.
Beltane "switches on" gender roles of the Mistress and the Lover.
What is the female role of the "Mistress"? Here we should not understand it in the usual meaning of the word "mistress" or the meaning of the archetype. The gender role of the Mistress in the Wheel of the Year means a woman who knows what she wants. It is a woman who understands her desires and knows how to implement them.
Ask yourself, dear ladies, do you know what you want? What do you want for yourself? Not for your husband, not for your children, not for your parents, but for yourselves. How often do you make your wishes come true?
These are very simple questions. But, unfortunately, not all of us can answer them. Many women have "suppressed" role of the Mistress. They know what others want from them, but they do not realize their own desires.
I want to offer you a simple exercise. Take a piece of paper and during 72 hours write on it one hundred your wishes. I will be grateful if in the comments you write what you got. Not your wishes, but if it was difficult or easy for you to do this exercise.
The other extreme occurs when the role of the Mistress suppresses all other roles. Such a woman does what she likes, absolutely not thinking about other people, about the consequences of her actions.
With such a woman it is impossible to negotiate anything, because it does not fulfil the agreements, does not fulfil promises. Naturally, this behaviour leads to problems with trust and respect for her.
A man's role "Lover" means a man who satisfies desires (not only sexual and not only women'). This is a man who can give something to others.
The imbalance of the role of the Lover can be manifested in two variants. First, this is when a man is not capable of refusing to anybody (primarily a woman). It squanders the entire resource to meet other people's whims. The second option is when almost any request a man responds with a refusal, regardless of the reasonableness and validity of this request.
