Saguaro fruit season in Sonoran desert

in nature •  7 years ago  (edited)

Saguaros are the ultimate teachers, in very harsh desert conditions they not only survive but thrive, and they are producing the most delicious fruit that I have ever tasted, nourishing all desert creatures. They are truly incredible, and I feel blessed to live amongst them=) My love & appreciation to these high beings, worshippers of the Sun, grows each year, especially since I started harvesting. Surprisingly there is a lot of people living here for a very long time, who never tasted it! In a lot of places it is also illegal, so you have to know where to go. But it is all perfect, so there is a balance, and there is enough of fruit for the animals!
I love eating it fresh, adding it to vanilla ice cream, or to granola and almond milk..
juice of saguaro fruit is simply divine!! Often some of the sweetest fruit is one that opened up, got Sun baked & crunchy..
mmmmmm.....;) this year saguaro fruit season is very abundant again, and they will be ready within few weeks, can't wait!
