Whilst I was on holiday in Scotland last year I assisted the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals with the rescue of an abandoned seal pup.

The man from the SSPCA told us that when seals reach a certain age they are left to fend for themselves. The length of hair/fur on this particular pup suggested that it had reached this point. Unfortunately this pub had been on the beach for too long and it was apparent that it would require intervention if it were to survive.
I helped carry the pup from the beach to the van. We were told that my the time they released him back into the wild he would be 4 times the weight.
