Sneaking up on a Bobcat

in nature •  7 years ago

Hello Steemers! Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Today I went through some old photos looking for something to post and I came upon some photos I took a few years back when I was living out on a 40 acre ranch. I remember it being really windy that day, a storm was blowing in, but it wasn't raining yet. I walked past my sliding glass door and saw something moving in the tall grass on the other side of the fence. I realized it was a bobcat that I had seen out on the gravel road a few times. I grabbed my camera and figured I would try to get some photos, even though I was sure it would immediately run away at the first sign of me.

I slowly made my way out to the fence, taking cover behind trees , rocks, and my landlords boat tent thing. I was now within 20 feet of the bobcat and was surprised it hadn't seen or heard me and run off. I think the fact that it was really windy out helped me sneak up on it.

I managed to get a few pictures of him with my cheap camera, zooming in the best I could while hiding behind the tent, but I think he either smelled me or saw me moving, because he looked right at me then bounded off into the brush. It was a very cool experience seeing him that close, I just wish I would've had a better camera at the time!
