What a beautiful finch I saw here, it was so cute! The colors were almost golden brown on top of it's beak. I laid out birdseed and gourmet bakery muffins- Organic Cranberry with Pistachios! These birds made out, lol! In the winter time, the birds could use our help, I think it's nice to help out nature at times such as cold freezing weather where the birds cannot access their food sources on the ground as it is frozen and covered with snow. I saw them today in a bunch of branches they were all looking for food and some even ate the snow, lol! You can share all the birds I saw earlier and hopefully you can help me with their names. I love bird watching but need to be able to identify them more. There are a few facts I learned about birds...some you may of not known before.

Cardinals are beautiful! the male red color is so nice! I love the females orange beak.

5 FACTS ABOUT BIRDS:

  1. They will not freeze to death in the winter. They are especially equipped to deal with winter in several ways, they fluff their feathers and they also store fat in the shorter winter months. They are able to deal with far below zero. However, it is nice to help them out. Giving them food, water or shelter as well, shovel a little grass area for them and add seed. I try not to get it close to anything so a cat will not come and kill them but also Hawks can get them as well. I try to help them though as feeding nature in the cold winter months seems kind to me.
  1. Robins, other birds always fly south for winter, they do not. Robins, Blue Jays, Owls and other birds such as finches, etc. stay here throughout harsh winters.
  1. The Blue tits Bird actually Steals Milk! I am guessing why they gave it that name, lol!
These poor birds have even died falling into the milk bottles, poor guys. Stay away from that milk! lol!

  2. Vultures dye their own hair! Red pigmentation suggests dominance to other birds-

  3. Herons in Florida have a truce with alligators!
Yes, you heard it correct, they seem to have an alliance of sorts, lol!

Chris, your pictures of the birds are beautiful! The red and yellow birds are such a vibrant color. And all the others look adorable!

That is so nice of you to feed them! I never thought of that. I just may have to leave some food out for them. I didn't know certain ones don't fly to the south.

Thanks for sharing the pics and stay safe and warm!

Hi there Anna! Thank you so much! You are too kind. I love feeding them and I'm sure it helps as the ground is frozen. I have a hard time keeping the feral cats away and also the Hawks! I'm only a mile to Downtown Richmond. That's a scary sight, lol! However, it is something to o and I bet you could get some great shots of them! I hope you are staying warm too! The Blue Jays will eat bread- meat, etc. lol! They are gorgeous but were hiding from me and I got cold, lol!!

Yes, that is so cute that you thought of them! The ground is pretty darn frozen!

Yeah, I'd be afraid of attracting squirrels around here so I'd have to stay right near the food until the birds get it :)

We'll see when it gets cleared around here. We are in the middle of the storm. I have snow that blew up against my door. Waiting for the condo shovelers and plows. I'll have to clear my car off tomorrow morning. ugh But I'll check out the birds once it's a bit clearer. It's going to get freezing here too. -25 wind chill on Saturday morning. brrrrr

I really did not know these 5 facts i think there are many facts like this would be. am i right?

Oh, yes, there are so many more, lol! I had to draw the line though haha! It's really interesting nature in general...:-)

HI Chris,
that's a great post. I love cardinals and leave food out also. I have some of the suet feeders hanging outside also the birds peck the food out of them. It has been so cold the last few days here in MD that the suet froze and the birds were having trouble getting the food out so we just put them on the ground. It is fun watching the different birds come down to eat. Keep up with the pictures they are great!!

That's cool, you should upload a video of that onto the DTube Platform! It's way better than Youtube, now we can add all kinds of music to our videos without them deleting it for copyright..

nice photography good job dear @clove71 i like your bird photos

Thank you!

Simply amazing,,,. Perfect click & Nice explanation, You are doing a great job, Thanks for sharing @clove71

Thanks so much!

I'm sorry I am out of votes, this was very enjoyable. A harsh blizzard is bearing down hard here. I noticed the smaller birds were not able to access the food on the ground due to the snow that had accumulated. I put out a cardboard box and poured extra seed on top for the little ones. They were eating immediately, I was very happy after helping them. I followed, nice cat.

That's awesome of you to help them out! :-) Nice job! Animal Lovers are awesome.

It's the animals who are awesome :)
