Codger - Another 3 Apple Trees Planted At A Secret Location.

in nature •  7 years ago

Hi Guys,

A total of 18 apple trees have now been secretly planted at decentralized locations. The recent micro orchard planting of 3 trees was completed today in drizzly conditions as a wave of rainfall sweeps across Scotland. The trees are planted a little closer than I would have liked, but it was the only suitable patch of fertile soil available at this location.

I have some nice, more fully established trees coming soon and have the next planting location at the edge of a woodland planned.

That's all for now.

Kind regards

Codger

The Secret Tree Planter

Wisdom, is an old man planting trees. I’m Codger, a secret tree planter and I’ve started planting apple trees in uninhabited locations, small clearings and neglected areas around Ayrshire, Scotland.

An ancient Greek proverb says, “Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.” I guess that adequately describes me and what I’m trying to do.

I’m following in the footsteps of the famous American nurseryman Johnny Appleseed who transformed various US States into apple baskets over two hundred years ago. Except, my efforts are much smaller in scale and I will not live long enough to see the trees flourish to produce fruit in maturity.

I’m an old codger, but still have the energy, the will, and trustingly a little fruitful time left to plant apple trees that others will stumble across at some time in the future. Hopefully, they’ll stop a moment to enjoy their majesty, and wonder why the apple trees are there as they partake of their seasonal fruit.

I’m not on facebook, twitter or any other social network. I’m not antisocial, but prefer to remain anonymous in my exploits. However, I believe in Steemit’s aims and I can plant trees for younger and new generations to enjoy, perhaps even you.

I’ve thankfully enjoyed a good life and just want to give a little more back for the benefit of others in unexpected ways.

Through Steemit I’ll let you know of my new plantings with photos and descriptions of the trees planted.
In some smaller more restricted locations I’ll plant just one self-pollinating tree, and in larger clearings three different varieties of the same pollination group that flower at the same time.

The GPS locations will be recorded and I’ve instructed that their coordinates are released at an appropriate time in the future when the trees are mature and can’t be easily uprooted.

If you follow me I’ll let you know my new plantings and thank you in advance for any encouragement.

Kind regards

Codger

Wow this is so cool! Upvoted and followed. I really like the Greek quote! We just did some clearing, of 20+ years of neglect (included a 40+ foot tree!) in the what used to be the garden, and have now fenced in a 50-by-60 foot area, and I've started some plants, I think so far 6 tomato bunches (one was three fairly well-developed plants in one pot, so I left them together) and two pepper plants.

Looking forward to learning more about your exploits! :) And I will be posting my experiences in the garden as well. (Weird, Steemit is jumping the display up and down as I'm typing this!) Great to meet you!

Thanks Libertyteeth and good luck with your gardening adventures too.
