Hi folks. 2:30am at the moment and I just came up from my workshop... been busy all weekend with work and some home improvements, not to mention squeezing in an Old Crow Medicine Show concert as well as the Mayweather/McGregor fight. Anyway, I figured I'd put in a some time to get a Daily Nature Fix put out there.
For tonight's DNF, we have a couple of photos I've taken of glaciers over the past few years. Glaciers were always high on my bucket list to see. I'm happy to have visited quite a few of them before they melt away. We'll start out with a few in Alaska, then one or two from Iceland. Here we go.
^^^This is the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska. It's around 10 miles outside of Juneau and was the first glacier I ever saw. It looked pretty awesome with the gray mountains and green forestry around it. It's a photogenic glacier, indeed.
^^^Here's the Margerie Glacier in Alaska. I've posted photos of this gal a few times before, over the past year. This is my favorite glacier I've seen in the US. We watched this one calve icebergs or at least an hour.
^^^Here's a closer up view of Margerie. I just like this view because you can see mountains and valley beyond it's face, as well as some of the glacier in the distance snaking down to the waters of Glacier Bay.
^^^This incredibly bland looking pile of black volcanic ash is actually the Grand Pacific Glacier. I included this photo just to show that not all glaciers are white and blue beauties. The Grand Pacific Glacier is a beast when it comes to size though. It's over two miles across and makes up the 'dead end' of Glacier Bay... which it created.
^^^Here is a view of Iceland's Svínafellsjökull glacier, which is actually a tongue coming off of the massive Vatnajökull glacier. I'd say it's my favorite glacier I've seen in Iceland. We saw it on the first trip during the summer time and Svínafellsjökull was mostly all white colored... but on our second trip, we went in the winter time and, as you can see, it's much more blue looking. Pretty cool.
^^^This is a photo taken of Snæfellsjökull during our most recent trip to Iceland, around 2 months ago. It was our first time ever seeing the glacier as on all of our other trips, the entire mountain was shrouded in cloud cover and fog. This trip, we got lucky and had some perfectly clear, blue skies when we were in the area.

Oh yeah. Wagon Wheel is their most popular number. Actually, it's their ONLY popular number, really. They always end with that one (aside from the encores).
