Daily Nature Fix: Seeing the Northern Lights. (Original Photos)

   Hi gang.  First off, I want to apologize for my near week-long hiatus from DNF posts.  Kylene and I had our wedding reception yesterday and we've been frantically working to get ready for it.  We had it at our property and ky spent the week making all of the decorations and I spent the week putting natural stone veneer on our house.  It's a big relief to have the reception over though.  I should be back to the daily posts now, once again.

    Anyway, for today's Daily Nature Fix I'll be sharing one of the top 5 life experiences I've ever had:  Seeing the Northern Lights.  We saw them last year on our winter trip to Iceland.  It was one of two reasons we went back to the country in the winter after visiting during the summer already.  You can only see the lights in the winter (because there is no nighttime during the summer) and the other reason was to tour some glacier ice caves that become too unstable in the summer months.  

   Now, I've said it before and I'll say it again:  I'm not a photographer by any means.  These photos aren't  incredible, but I definitely had to do everything I could to capture our experience.

   We were there for some 8 nights, and on each one the skies were either too cloudy, or the aurora borealis was just inactive.  We were about to give up hope on seeing them, when a window in the clouds opened for a around an hour and we got the show of a lifetime.

   They started right around dusk at about 8:00pm.  At first they looked like a faint cloud and as we kept an eye on it, it slowly morphed into other shapes... and the darker out it got, the brighter the lights became.  

   It's impossible to try and explain what they looked like in person.  There is nothing "like" it in the world to compare it to.  The best I could do is that it looked a massive lava lamp of transparent, neon lights.

   For both Kylene and myself, seeing the northern lights was right at the top of our bucket lists.  I'm so glad we are able to put a check mark by that one... but we've been jonesing to see them again!
