2018 Massive Coral loss on the Great Barrier Reef.

**New levels of potential devastation, as increasing risks to the Great Barrier Reef are shown in rising Ocean temperatures. Previous modelling has shown a gradual decline in coral health as percentages are lost in annual warming events. This model is now updated to show that all the coral on the Great Barrier reef could be lost in just one high level warming. We have seen that temperatures on land have been hitting record highs, and sustaining the levels over months since the Australian Summer ended, this is likely to occur in Ocean temperatures too.

Globally the oceans are a great balance of high level temperatures and provide a moderation to the extremes we would otherwise experience. It is thought now that the temperatures in the Oceans will spike sharply in the next two years. In Western Australia a recent warming event destroyed a complete coral reef system, and it has been replaced with fields of giant kelp, the coral will never regrow.

Surely our children and their children will ask us, what we did to stop the destruction of our oceans and coral reefs? The public is well informed and are asking the government to take urgent action, including transplanting corals that show resilience to heat, and reducing global Co2 emissions.

The government is hiding in shame, paid off by the lobbyists for coal and fossil fuels, and will be blamed for the inaction they have shown. Speak up in writing and push for rapid significant changes to our use of fossil fuels in Australia, we are now well behind the rest of the developed world.
