Huntsmen in my garden

in nature •  7 years ago  (edited)

Huntsman spiders are common in my garden. To be honest when I first arrived in Australia I hated them. First one that I encountered was at least 10 cm long (body size: 2 cm -female, 1.6 cm -male; Leg span: up to 15 cm), to me looked like huge brown tarantula and it almost gave me heart attack. Don’t forget I came from Europe where these insects are tiny.

After long research online I realised that they are harmless and eat other spiders which also reside in my garden - poisonous Red Backs, from that day onwards we became friends 😉.

Few days ago while I was watering my lemon tree I noticed this under a leaf, I had no time to go and grab my camera but I had a phone and snapped few photos. Hope you will like them.

Welcome back!! That's a neat spider. Amazing seeing them take out bugs bigger than them! I'll pass on seeing one in person lol.

Hahaha...this one was a baby, you should see seriously bug ones 😉
