The Bold Chested Crimson Bird : The Bullfinch

Seldom seen these day unless you frequent the hedge rows of the fields. These crimson chested little birds with their little black caps are the brightest of the finch family.

The Bullfinch mainly eats seeds and small insects and the tiny grubs that they find under the loose tree bark. Not often seen in the garden unless you live next door to wooded area's

Bullfinches usually nest in tree or shrubs and build their nests from fine twigs, moss and lichens and lined with a thick layer of fine roots. They lay four to five eggs and usually pair up for the whole season

The male has a crimson chest, grey back and black cap, tail and wing tips

The female has the black cap and tail but their body is more a fawn colour with a fawny grey back
