This little bird is one of those birds you see in your garden and say whoa what's that bird. He's a colourful little character, that's a regular visitor to the garden but most people are not sure what its called.
Chaffinches are not as common today as days gone by. You can tell the male by his rusty orange body and his grey cap. You'll often see him at the top of the tallest tree sing loudly to attract the female. The female is more drab looking with a brown upper body and a grey underside.
Nesting mainly high up in the fork of a tree branch, they lay four to five eggs
They mainly eat caterpillars in summer but they will also visit bird feeders and take seed and peanut
From Wikipedia
