Coyote sightings in the area have been a big topic of discussion in my neighborhood. Compared to other predators (i.e., mountain lions) known in these parts I do not find coyotes to be that threatening.
Coyote Sighting
Just as dawn was breaking on 10 February 2018 I spotted this coyote searching for some small critters.

As I observed the coyote it still seemed to be favoring one paw.

Unlike many of my neighbors I found it to be a joy to watch the coyote as it searched for small critters.
For the next photos I had the f-stop too high for these morning shots.

As I mentioned previously there have been times when Mountain Lions have been spotted in the area. I know to be aware of my surroundings, I rather deal with Coyotes than Mountain Lions. As much as some of my neighbors freak out about seeing a coyote, I can just imagine their hysteria if a mountain lion was seen in the area.

Coyote Sightings in Texas
But my neighborhood is not the only neighborhood that has neighbors concerned about coyote sightings. I found this post from the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office in Texas about sightings of coyotes near neighborhoods.

You have to appreciate the sheriff's sense of humor.

I wish we had interesting wildlife in the Uk instead of just rabbits foxes and deer! id love to see a wolf or coyote but especially a cougar! Buy why they want to hunt them, especially when there are so few ?

A wolf is much different than a coyote. On the danger scale it is certainly a step above a coyote. And a mountain lion is a bigger step above a wolf.
When mountain lion come near neighborhoods, human interaction almost always follows. It does not go well for the person attacked by a mountain lion.
Since I have been here there have been two instances of mountain lions in the area. One was captured and taken to the zoo. The other was killed when during the capture process the lion decided to attack.
Farming and livestock is a big business in the area. An increasing population of mountain lions can threaten livestock.
Food is always an incentive for predators. Before the first mountain lion incident, people were feeding deer in the area and the deer population in the urban areas sky rocketed. Since it is an urban area, the deer were safe from hunters. But the deer were also a draw for predators (i.e., mountain lions). Nature is always seeking a balance.
I'm just glad there are no bears in the area. I have seen and heard reports of bears breaking into cars and homes in other parts of the country.
There are foxes here too. But since the coyotes moved in, I have not seen a fox.
Have a great weekend!
Steem on,
Mike

Nature is always seeking a balance but humans are always trying to balance nature to their own agenda! Cheers mate, Still jealous you can see and take pics like that in your own backyard :-)

Those are some amazing photos man. In Phoenix we get a lot of coyotes walking through the neighborhoods. People need to watch out for their cats sake! hahah

I agree, my neighbors need to be watchful of their small pets.
Several years ago our neighborhood was being over run by rabbits. The coyotes are keeping the rabbit population in check. It is nature. I appreciate having the coyotes around to control the population of smaller critters.
With the population of Mountain Lions on the increase in the area, I am going to be more watchful for Mountain Lions than Coyotes. Often I hear the howls of the coyotes at night. If I ever heard the roar of a mountain lion, then I would be more on guard. This is still the wild west, but some city folk think otherwise. (I must say that I was once called a "city-slicker" by farmers out in the rural areas.)
Have a great weekend!
Steem on,
Mike

I won't lie and say that I'd be all that comfortable out in the woods by myself and getting confronted by a hungry coyote if I wasn't carrying some kind of fire arm. Especially, after watching this old video (WARNING: explicit language, NSFW):

This is very confusing because at some points the photographer actually encourages the coyote by saying "Come Here" and similar gestures instead of taking an aggressive stance to scare it away like he does at the end of the video.
It is a great video, but people need to keep in mind that a wild animal is unpredictable and not to be played with.
It is far better for people to keep coyotes afraid of people instead of interacting with them.
Thanks for sharing the video.
Have a great weekend!

Wow, really great pictures, I have never seen coyotes in wild nature, was it scary? Do they attack people?

The coyotes in the area have not attacked people. I am sure that one day someone will be dumb enough to provoke a coyote and get attacked then blame the coyote.
Only small pets have been attacked to date.
I photographed this from my house, not scary at all. It is a little unnerving to here there howls right outside your window. But you just have to be aware of your surroundings if you go out at night.
Thank you for your comment and your support. Both are greatly appreciated.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Mike

I love the Sheriffs's post - the idea of the Coyote with the ACME sign set me off laughing!. On a more serious note I hope they don't bring back a hunting season to the mountain lions and there is a way to peacefully co-exist for your locals.
