Hi Steemit family!

Blue headed parrot

Today we will continue with another exotic bird that I am sure you will love, it is the turn of the blue-headed parrot known for its peculiar blue head, but you know something curious: its beautiful blue head does not reach it until its adult age so the plumage of the chicks during their early age is green so it is not until their middle age that we will be able to admire their characteristic colors ... Come with me to know some other characteristics.

The blue-headed parrot, whose scientific name is Pionus menstruus, has a very large head compared to its very short tail. It comes from the south of America and is naturally found among the jungle forests of Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil where they live in groups, they are also found in some regions of Central America mainly in Mexico, so they also call it Mexican blue-headed parrot, their diet is none other than, from seeds, nuts and flowers, but they also consume land from the vicinity of rivers to get the minerals they do not consume through seeds.

Despite looking like "common" parrots have amazing characteristics that distinguish them from other genera of the same family.

It is necessary to know that its name is due to that in its neck and head the blue color predominates, with a brighter tonality that mixes with a red of pink tone in the throat. In addition, it has a black auricular spot.

On the other hand, the area of his chest is dark green, and has a blue flake; this is more uniform in the case of males. Its eyes are dark brown, its beak is black and its legs are brown.

It is clear that they are very colorful animals, whose predominant colors are blue, mostly, as well as red and green and shades of pink in various parts of his body.

They are so united to each other that besides living in groups, in this same way they move from one side to another to look for food or simply to fly from one place to another looking for a place to rest and their group can get to be up to four hundred parrots.

source

It is proven that their life is up to thirty years of age, but it is rumored that they can reach up to sixty years of life. of course, this in their natural habitat.

In spite of their colorful blue head they camouflage very well in their environment to hide from their natural predators because the green in their feathers is very favorable.

Something very beautiful about these parrots is their fidelity because once the male chooses his partner they stay together for the rest of their lives, their mating season takes place in the spring season specifically in the month of May. The female can lay up to five eggs and remains in her nest for a period of three to four weeks while the incubation lasts. After incubating them, when the chicks come out, they are under the care of their parents until about two months after their birth because after a few weeks they are already able to fly.

We have noticed that parrots have a large number of families and breeds of which it would be beautiful to know them all.
