Hi Steemit family!

Today I bring you one of the most beautiful and tender creatures of nature, its greenery is so intense that it is difficult not to appreciate it, it is the emerald hummingbird that is native to Honduras specifically inhabits the tropical dry forests of the largest valleys of this paradisiacal Central American country.

source

It belongs to the species of birds nicknamed the Hummingbird family, its size is really small and can be appreciated more when it is midday or sunlight reflects in its plumage. It is a very popular bird in Honduras because it is the only one of its kind and tourist attraction.

Among its main characteristics we have a very small bird that can measure between 9 and 10cm in length including its head and tail, although it is called emerald hummingbird not all its body is green like the precious stone, also has bluish tones especially in its neck, has a very long beak able to collect the nectar of the most bell-shaped flowers is presents you with colors between black and red.

In this species both sexes are of the same size, although there are differences in color being the male of a more tenuous color with respect to the female, this incredible bird can fly back and forth, can even fly inverted and stop immediately, can reach 60 kilometers per hour.

source

Their basic diet is the nectar of plants such as cactus their favorite and bromeliads, although not everything is nectar they are also able to feed on some small insects, some that may be close to the plants from which they feed or that are even pollinators.

source

As for their reproduction, their months to mate are March and April, their nest is very structured and use various materials ranging from sticks or twigs of different trees, spider webs, mosses, and some other plants, lay two eggs that incubate for 19 days at most, females are excellent mothers, after leaving the cascade the females go in search of food to bring their young food, visiting the nest about 150 times a day and can live up to 6 years.

The emerald hummingbird is a very elusive bird, found especially in dry and humid forests, although it is sometimes sought in these environments and is not seen anywhere. The locals who live in rural areas are accustomed to seeing it on a daily basis as they plant a variety of flowers in their gardens.

source

There is a serious threat to the emerald hummingbird, the caburé owl is its main predator, then follow other factors of human interference in its habitat, deforestation and agricultural production as well as the development of jungle tourism and the construction of new urbanism has put this beautiful bird on the list of animals in extinction, the bird has moved to other places than the common places where it would live which has implied a change in the diet and consequently its disappearance.

source

The main problem for the emerald hummingbird is that Honduras is its habitat, as it is endemic to this area, its survival is more complicated. The international union for the conservation of nature placed this bird in the top 3 of the most threatened species. For the moment there is a protection program that managed to get a natural refuge for this bird to live in quiet and without threats that are located in the department of Yoro in Honduras.Today I bring you a work of excellent quality from the hand of some of the most

Wow, those are incredibly beautiful!

We only have a couple of species of hummingbirds here in western Washington, US... and they are not nearly as colourful as yours. But they are still lovely little birds.

They are my most favorite bird and I love supplying nectar for them during their visits to my gardens.

Ellos son muy lindos, aquí en el jardín de la urbanización hay muchos, he querido fotografiarlos pero ellos vuelan muy rápido!!!

Great post and nature is so wonderful and magnificent at times.
