WHY CALLED AFRICAN AND ARABIAN OLD WORLD MONKEYS

The five species are some of the largest non-hominoid members of the primate order where only the mandrill and the drill are larger. All of the five different species of baboons live in Africa or Arabia.

Guinea baboon

Baboons are African and Arabian old world monkeys belonging to the genus Papio, part of the subfamily Cercopithecinae. The large ground-dwelling social monkey is having long dog-like muzzles (snout) and large canine teeth, cheek pouches, a short tail and naked callosities on the buttocks.

Chacma baboon (Papioursinus) found in southern Africa (Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and northern South Africa).
