Baby Giant

in nature •  7 years ago

This large tree is a descendant of the colossal trees on Washington's coastline.
As tall as this tree is, it would have only reached the elbows of it's ancestors.
Baby Giant escaped the loggers by about 30 yards, it is safe behind the ranch property line.
Tree is probably a Douglas-fir., it may be near or just under 100 ft now but will be over 200 ft at maturity.
Six of it's siblings to seaward, equally large, were cut down and now this one has to face the winter storms alone
