My piece of nature (in a bottle...)

Have a look at my terrarium!

Basically, a terrarium is a glass container with the plant and soil sealed inside it. The translucent material of the glass allows the light and heat to penetrate through it. This heat will cause the moisture from the plant and soil to evaporate. Since the container is sealed, the vapour will then condensed into water that will soon be absorbed by the soil and by the plant.

A complete cycle of water is happening within this container which assists to the growth of the plant inside it. Similar to the outside world, the terrarium itself is creating its own environment.

The making of my own terrarium gave me a realization about the environment that we are living in. It may seem that nature works in a mysterious way but if we only try to breakdown the process, our understanding will become clearer. The plants only need light, soil and water to survive. In fact it doesn’t even need us to grow and propagate on its own.

What nature need is just a place of its own.

Have you made a terrarium before? I've got friends who have made them, but I've never got around to ask how long did it last for? I know in theory it should go on for a long time, but what's the real-life practice?

I made this one. Based on my friend's experience, it can last for many years depending on its condition + you still have to water it once or twice a month.
