Have you seen an Antlion?

Today I found an Antlion and decided to write a blog post about it.
Antlions are most commonly know for their predatory larvae.

Antlions live in sandy environments such as the desert, the beach or even the playground. The adults look like dragonflies or damselflies and their larvae look like a ball of sand with giant jaws. They make pits in the sand and lay berried at the bottom. When an ant comes along it falls in the pit and can not escape. The Antlion larvae eats it.
I found one in Spain and a lot in Miami, but you can find them anywhere in the world.

This is how to catch them:
Scoop in and around the pit. Sift the sand with a sand sifter and Boom! If you don't catch one don't worry because the pit might be abandoned. You may need to try several times.

Antlions are the assassin of the insect world!

Have you seen an Antlion before?
