"The island offers a fantastic development potential," says Davie Corrie from real estate company Galbraith about the curious offer. In his opinion, the island could be transformed into something "really exciting", for example a retreat for families and friends. Real estate agent Corrie is sure that many buyers from Great Britain and abroad will come to him.
The island has a dark past: the small island made headlines in the 1960s, when the island's lighthouse guard was murdered by his colleague. The incident came to light when an employee of the Royal Ocean Rescue Organization visited the island by chance and discovered the lifeless body of Hugh Clark. The murderer and lighthouse keeper, Robert Dickson, could only be arrested after a national persecution - he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
"Little Ross Island": This Scottish island is for sale - for only 370,000 euros
Now the Scottish real estate company wants to make the island palatable to potential buyers: the offer includes beside the island area also a small country house with six bedrooms. In addition, there are three barns threatened with decay. Not included in the price is the lighthouse of the island, which was built in the 19th century and is still in operation.
However, the buyers have to adjust to increased travel costs: the island is only 2.2 km from the mainland, but can only be reached by private boat or the helicopter.
