The Perseids is the biggest meteor shower the year and it's happening right now with the peak on August 11th.
Our planet is spinning through the tail end of the Swift-Tuttle comet and tiny bits of meteor debris are smacking into the atmosphere. They are burning up and creating a light show in the sky with shooting stars. Some experts are saying it could be at the rate of up to 200 meteors per hour.
The Perseids meteors are typically bright and fast, and they often leave a bright streak that lingers in the sky for a bit. They travel at the speed of around 130,000 miles per hour.
The show will be best seen from the northern hemisphere and the best time to view the meteor shower will be between midnight and dawn. The best places are away from bright areas and of course the weather needs to cooperate with clear skies. No special equipment is needed but you do need to watch for awhile to start noticing them.
Great chance to get out there and get some great photos to share on Steemit!
Good reminder!
I hope this year to look at the show and not sleep.

Sounds like a good reason to be out in the hot tub tonight with the hubby.... and maybe some wine :)
