I planted over a thousand trees with sewing!steemCreated with Sketch.

Well, I myself did not plant them, and technically they aren’t planted yet.

Since a couple of years have a webshop on Etsy and it is called Viggi Handmade. There you will find different sized fabric bags with zipper closure. In July 2018 I decided that for each item purchased two dollar goes to Trees for the Future (trees.org). They can plant ten trees per dollar. That means that for each pouch I sell twenty trees will be planted.

Their mission is fantastic:

‘break the cycle of poverty and eradicate hunger for 1 million people by planting 500 million trees in 125,000 Forest Gardens by 2025.’ (This is their Impact Report 2018)

Many birds can be rescued in one fell swoop. Planting trees is powerful: it solves a lot of problems, because many problems have something to do with the lack of trees nowadays.

Sales have been slow this summer and fall, my sewing machine and I parted for a while. I didn't put much energy into selling the bags. Still, I sold 58 pouches since I started voluntarily taxing myself. That is a collection of 116 dollars that I transferred to Trees.org and hopefully one day soon it will materialize itself in the shape of 1160 trees.

Anyway this is only the small beginning, I plan on planting lots of trees.

If you are looking for something utterly practical and long lasting, take a look at my Etsy shop: Viggi Handmade. Everything you find there is as cruelty free as is practical possible and handmade by me. You will support a great mission: making sure I can buy something to eat for myself and plant TREES. Every item purchased equals twenty trees.

Trees bring us shade, food and life. They sequester carbon. Trees bring comfort and safety and stability, not only on a global level but also for us as individuals. Whenever I am near trees and I open myself I feel something fills me up, a mixture of admiration, peace and excitement, love for the way their foliage filters the light, how there appearance changes slightly each day, the intoxicating smell of a bunch of them together, also called a forest.

Now I know we need more of them I feel it as one of my key obligations to make sure that happens.

If you agree with me that we need more trees, there are a couple of things you could do to help:

  1. By purchasing a lovely handmade pouch you support me & 20 trees will be planted per purchased item. There’s also a sale going on now because of Black Friday. The pouches make great gifts.
  2. Go to Trees.org and donate trees directly.
  3. Think of more ideas how to plant more trees.
  4. Read Impact Report (very inspiring) How are they ending poverty while planting trees?
  5. All of the above.

I’m quite new on Steemit and I have not established much of a network here, but Resteeming this would be very much appreciated! Thank you for reading and contributing.
