While on my morning walk with Max the dog we stopped and watched the mallards lazily swimming across the pond. On gazing downward I noticed several slim shapes undulating through the water. Fish have made it up the artificial waterways into the retention pond. The picture isn't good but you can just make out the shapes of them. After our peaceful little interlude we continued on our way before the heat of the day became burdensome to Max.

I can't tell from the image how big those fish are, but in these parts, sometimes fishermen will catch fish and then transfer them to another body of water to 'seed' that lake, or pond.

It's not legal to do that, but it happens anyway.

The biggest of these was about 2 inches long and as small fish are wont to do they were hiding in among the rocks and reeds at the edge of the water. The "pond" is actually a storm water collection site in amongst a great deal of houses. The pond connects via man made ditches to a small river not far away. With all the rain and snow melt we have had it is quite possible for fish to have swum into it. I, for one am glad to see them as they will keep the mosquito population in check.

I am glad to see that the water is fit for fish to live in
