The African Leopard

The African leopard is really magnificent and is my favorite animal of all time. We used to have some on our mountain and in the surrounding area when we were living on a farm. I never saw any, but my family members did and we would always joke around with people when we go hiking on our mountain or in places where there were leopards that if you weighed less than 50 kg's you need to be careful because that is the weight range the leopards normally go for.

They are really strong and good climbers so that they can drag carcasses into trees to keep them out of reach form other scavengers and carnivores. It is interesting to me that they are the second biggest cat, with lions being the first, and they can climb trees way better than lions.

They are very adaptable so they can live in almost any habitat, except in sandy desserts. They are also solitary creatures that are very territorial, protecting their territory from other leopards with violence when necessary. They are seen with other leopards only when mating and normally only a male and female, or when a female is raising a cub. They have 2-3 cubs, sometimes more and the cubs can stay with the mother for about 2 years before they go their own way.
