Migrating Fish

in nature •  7 years ago

I will share with you steemians the only tourist attraction in my village.

The locally world famous migrating fish river, where perch and pikes swim upstreams to reproduce.

And yes, we have prohibited fishing in this creek so that we will have plenty of fish in the ocean instead. And yes, we do fishing in the ocean.

This is the old and curently non-working fish ladder

Here is the reason why it is not working properly, this wood should be under water level, there is several of these and with the help of my micro-creeks, the rest of them remain under water.

The last step the fish have to jump, I saw a small fish jump a whole meter.

Some fish go the wrong way, and yes, the whole ladder is a one big shit-design.

Instead of one high ladder you can have several micro-creeks. But I am guessing that most people are non-connected with nature and creative thinking or they just reason something like "We just want the biggest fish to survive, so we later can eat its offspring..."

Anyway, in order to raise water levels and give more fish chance to reproduce I started building these micro creeks three years ago. They work really well, the only disadvantage is that sometimes the ice may move the smaller rocks, but I solved that by keeping distance between left and right turning creeks.

Difficult to see, but notice the change in water level, approximately 5 cm.

My favorite, the water is rotating in a circle, at one point even moving upstreams.

By doing this project I have learned 3 things.

  • By acting you are not observing anymore
  • A small work can matter a lot
  • You cannot stop moving water, you can only redirect the forge
