Amadou Mushroom: so much to say

in nature •  6 years ago  (edited)

It is so amazing when you go out foraging in the forest and you find an abundance of a very powerful and medicinal mushroom.
Amadou Mushrooms, Fomes Fomentarius, are true heroes for us humans, throughout our Evolutionary history these guys might have been our salvation from cold and diseases.
Otzi, the Ice man, a 5,000-plus-year-old body found on the Alps, had this Mushroom with him as well as a fabric made out of it. Yes, you can make a very nice, felt textured, fabric with the Amadou, it`s a process that has been kept alive by Indigenous peoples in Eastern Europe, specially in Transylvania, Romania.
The Okanogan-Colville Indians of British Columbia and Washington traditionally used this mushroom to treat arthritis. More recently, research has been discovering more of its amazing medicinal properties, including anti-tumor, antibacterial and anti-viral properties.
They are also called Horse hoof mushrooms because they look like a horse hoof stuck to a tree, very easy to identify.
