Hello my friends!! as I promised here is another post of Venezuela's wonderful exotic animals.
I believe that when you first saw the picture you thought, " wow that frog looks like another leaf and it's so flat", well yes I thought the same when I first saw it. It's name is "Pipa pipa Frog" and it looks that way because she adapted to the bottom of the stagnant waters of the Amazon, where its all filled with leafs are in decomposition. The Pipa pipa frog also looks that way to protect itself from preys and also to capture food such as fishes, insects and tadpoles.
Another fact about them is that they have a very poor vision because the Amazon Waters are turbid, they also developed nerve endings terminals in the extremes of their fingers from their front hands, which allows them to capture the vibrations on the water to identify if its a prey and how far or near they are.
The females carry the eggs attached to the back, forming a structure similar to that of the honeycombs of the bees that is created under the skin of the mother, the young develop there during the tadpole stage and when they are adults.
Hope you liked to learn of the Pipa pipa frog, see you soon with another post!!!
