it was created from the silk of over 1 million female golden orb spiders which are collected from telephone
poles in Madagascar.
it took 8 years to make including 5 years just to gather enough silk.
once the spiders had been milked, they were released into back into the wild.
about 24 m (80ft) of silk filaments were extracted from each of the arachnids.
the textile is 3.3 m by 1.2 m (11ft by 4 ft) and weighs about 1.1kg(2.6lbs)
spider silk is extremely hard to mass produce which makes this piece of textile one of its kind
spiders have a habit of chomping off each other s when housed together which makes farming them very complicated
researchers are currently developing synthetic spider silk in the lab which could eventually help us mass produce such textile.
