This powerful bull elephant was photographed in Addo Elephant National Park in South Africa near Port Elizabeth. I had the privilege of visiting Addo many times during my stay in South Africa. This guy walked right past our car, just to let us know he was the boss.
It is easy to tell the difference between African and Asian elephants. African elephants are larger, but the big distinction is their ears. African elephants have very large ears that are shaped in the form of the African continent. Asian elephants have much smaller ears.
Most of the time, if you see an elephant in a zoo or circus, or one giving rides, it is an Asian elephants. They are much more gentle and people friendly. African elephants will kill you.
